From Wednesday (2 September) to Saturday (5 September), Barcelona hosted the 17th edition of one of the largest conferences on urban history, organised by the European Association for Urban History (EAUH). The conference, entitled City Networks in Europe and Beyond, comprised over 100 sessions, bringing together more than 1000 scholars from various disciplines at the Faculty of History and Geography in Barcelona and other renowned locations across the city.
Dr Maja Perić gave her paper on Friday, 4 September, in Session 38, entitled Commodities, Commerce, and Urban Network in the Pre-Modern World and the Colonial Expansion. The presentation was entitled The Sweet Connection Between the Port Cities of Antwerp and Rijeka. The Privileged Company and the Sugar Refinery of Rijeka in International Commerce (1750–1775). The session attracted a large number of interested participants and brought together researchers from diverse academic backgrounds. In addition to the usual presentations, workshops and excursions were also held, which added even greater significance to the conference and which Maja also participated in. She returned to Zagreb full of inspiration and with new contacts in the academic world.
