On 13 January, the Croatian Institute of History hosted the kick-off meeting for the new research project funded by the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ), Between Knowledge and Ignorance: Ideas, Practices, and the Legacy of the Enlightenment in Croatian Lands (LIGHT), led by Dr Teodora Shek Brnardić.
Running through December 2027, the project aims to map and define the key features and geography of the Enlightenment as a cultural process that shaped the modern era—specifically within the context of the Croatian historical space.
Project outcomes will include a series of research reports, annotated bibliographies, scholarly publications, the first doctoral dissertation on Enlightenment in Croatian lands, and the first digital reader of Croatian Enlightenment texts.
In addition to the principal investigator, the team includes Dr Stipe Kljaić, Dr Zrinko Novosel, and Marta Jurković, MA (Croatian Institute of History); Assoc. Prof. Katja Radoš-Perković and Assist. Prof. Goranka Šutalo (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb); Assoc. Prof. Stipe Ledić (Catholic University of Croatia), and Dr Maja Perić.
