In the latest issue of the journal Croatica: Journal for Croatian Language, Literature and Culture, two articles have been published that present results from the HRZZ-funded project LIGHT.
The first article, by Katja Radoš-Perković, is entitled Friendship within the Enlightenment: On the Correspondence between Giulio Bajamonti and Alberto Fortis. The second contribution, authored by Teodora Shek Brnardić and Marta Jurković, is titled Cultural Exchanges in the Correspondence of Ragusan Nobleman Miho Sorgo (1739–1796).
Both publications are classified as original research articles.

Katja Radoš-Perković: “Friendship within the Enlightenment: On the Correspondence between Giulio Bajamonti and Alberto Fortis”
The paper is based on the latest edition of letters by Giulio Bajamonti, a medical doctor,
composer and polymath from Split (Ivana Tomić Ferić, HAZU – HMD, Zagreb, 2024), which offers for the first time the transcription and translation of a rich correspondence from several domestic and foreign archives. The research will consider only the letters and concepts exchanged between Giulio Bajamonti and the Italian naturalist Alberto Fortis, with the aim of shedding new light on their relationship, and the roles they played in each-otherʼs lives and works, and of confirming the thesis on their long-lasting friendship. The investigation focuses on the interpretation of the lettersʼ content within the context of Italian and Dalmatian Enlightenment and Neoclassicism, with regard of the topics they were concerned with, the problems they shared, and the very differing environments from which their letters were dispatched.

Teodora Shek Brnardić and Marta Jurković: “Cultural Exchanges in the Correspondence of Ragusan Nobleman Miho Sorgo (1739–1796)“
Ragusaʼs cultural sphere did not encompass only the highly esteemed Croatian (Illyrian) literature, but also included works written in Latin and Italian. In the late eighteenth-century republic of letters, individuals from Ragusa, such as the learned nobleman Miho Sorgo (1739–1796), worked tirelessly to transmit and disseminate these literary achievements among readers abroad, particularly within Italian cultural centres. The most valuable insights into these processes are offered by Sorgoʼs correspondence in the Italian language, which contains numerous examples of practices such as the commissioning and gifting of books, as well as the distribution of translated and original literary works. The aim of this paper is to present the forms of cultural exchange in which Miho Sorgo played a prominent and recognised role as cultural mediator and promoter of Ragusan culture and literature.
